Pre & Post Operative Rehabilitation

Pre and Post Operative Rehabilitation

We have a long history of working with local, national and international surgeons to provide the best preparation for and rehabilitation following your operation. Mobilising and strengthening before your operation can be of significant benefit to your outcome after your surgery. At The Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Clinic we can advise you on practical ways to cope immediately post surgery and progress to a structured rehabilitation program to promote movement, strength, mobility, and return to normal function.
Post Operative Rehabilitation

There are times when an operation is necessary to alleviate symptoms, improve function or stabilise a structure in the body. A significant part of the successful outcome following surgery is your rehabilitation programme. A session prior to the operation is highly recommended to allow the physiotherapist to assess the restriction and pain levels, and also the functional aims post operatively. A programme of exercises and advice can then be implemented prior to operation which will positively affect the outcome. Treatment will aim to restore normal movement patterns and sequencing of muscles; strengthen weak and underused muscles; improve flexibility of restricted joints and muscles; re-educate proprioception and balance mechanisms. We know that involving you in the treatment of your injury results in a more rapid and sustainable recovery. At The Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Clinic we want you to be able to maintain and improve the effects of your treatment, both during your session and in between sessions, and so a home exercise programme will be devised to improve your strength, flexibility, balance and, ultimately, your function.
We regularly see patients both before, and after surgical procedure such as:

Spinal: discectomy; fusion; decompression; stabilisation; injection
Shoulder: arthroscopy; decompression; soft tissue repair; fracture; dislocation; manipulation
Elbow: fracture; dislocation
Hip: arthroscopy; joint replacement; labral repair
Knee: ligament repair; arthroscopy; joint replacement; cartilage removal or repair
Ankle: fracture; ligament repair; tendon repair
Foot: fracture; soft tissue repair

At The Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Clinic we have, over many years, built relationships with many leading orthopaedic surgeons, both locally and nationally, who are confident in our expertise and judgement and regularly refer their patients to us.
