Joint Pain

The joints in the body where 2 or more bones meet are subject to stresses and strains such as weight bearing, overuse, direct injury, muscle imbalance, poor posture and arthritic change. Physiotherapy treatment at The Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Clinic is effective for the reduction of pain and inflammation, and the rehabilitation of stiff or injured joints.
Soft Tissue Injuries

Soft tissues may be injured by direct force, overuse or misuse. Sprains and strains, pulls and tears can affect the muscle bellies and their tendons throughout the body. A consultation with our physiotherapists at The Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Clinic will help you with immediate advice on how to offload the affected part, assist in the reduction of pain and inflammation, speed up the recovery process and return you to your function with an exercise program to stretch and strengthen affected muscles.
Joint Mobilisation Techniques

Effective both spinally and on the peripheral joints, joint mobilisation techniques can be used to encourage stiff joints to regain full and painfree movement. Joints tend to respond to injury or degenerative change by stiffening up, and making normal daily function increasingly difficult. It may then become painful to move the joint, and so function is further compromised leading to further stiffness. At The Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Clinic we believe in hands on treatment and have attended extended courses in various joint mobilisation techniques ( eg Maitland, Mulligan, Kaltenborn). Your skilled experienced physiotherapist will be able to assess the degree of restriction and dysfunction and then select the most appropriate joint treatment method to ensure safe and effective restoration of function.

Hypermobile joints can also present with pain and stiffness and can be challenging for the patient. We are experienced in assessing and treating hypermobility and will be able to treat you accordingly following a full and thorough assessment.
Soft Tissue Mobilisation Techniques

Soft tissues in the body include muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves and fascia.

Overuse, injury, trauma and poor posture can affect all of these tissues.

Various soft tissue techniques can be used to encourage tight muscles to relax, increase blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, reduce inflammatory reaction and swelling, alleviate muscle spasm, provide pain relief and relieve muscle tension.

There are many techniques available and your skilled physiotherapist at The Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Clinic will be able to assess whether soft tissue massage, myofascial release technique, deep tissue massage or trigger point therapy is appropriate for your condition.

Nerve tissue can also become restricted in its movement for various reasons such as poor posture, repeated activities or a rapid growth spurt. We are all very experienced in assessing when manual stretching and mobilisation of these structures will be beneficial to your return to normal painfree function.
